The Prayer Experience

By Elaine Meyer

In late September, listeners of the Unity.FM program Touching the Stillness were invited by host Rev. Paulette Pipe to participate in a 30-day prayer vigil.

Pipe encouraged her listeners to join her in “The Prayer Experience” and asked them to help “get the word out” through social networks. Participants in the vigil prayed each night at 10 p.m. and repeated this affirmation: I am seeking the Kingdom of God Consciousness and its righteousness, perfectly believing that all good things shall then be added to me.

After repeating the affirmation, participants were instructed to spend 15 minutes in uninterrupted silence and to ask for nothing more than a deeper connection with God.

Pipe encouraged participants to choose a time that worked well for them if her 10 p.m. (CT) slot wasn't convenient. “It's 10 o'clock somewhere!” she explained heartily. “And if you miss a day, just pick up where you left off. We will be there … holding that [sacred prayer] space.”

A worldwide experience
Unity.FM reaches a worldwide audience, with current listeners located in 112 countries. Pipe has received feedback from people around the globe who participated in the vigil. She recently held a silent retreat at Unity Village where visitors from as far away as Mexico attended because they felt called to come after listening to her radio program.

The Prayer Experience idea came to Pipe as she was researching Unity's original prayer vigil held 119 years ago by Unity founders Myrtle and Charles Fillmore. Their powerful prayer vigil became what is now known as Silent Unity. Pipe believes this prayer vigil has been an opportunity to build community—a church without walls with dedicated prayer partners who are creating a powerful prayer consciousness.

Answered prayers
Throughout the vigil, Pipe has received welcome news of wonderful happenings. A close friend and listener who had been indecisive about moving to another state participated in The Prayer Experience. During the vigil, she noticed that her worry dissipated and she became very clear about what to do. She feels at peace now.

Dorothy, a listener from Canada, wrote:

Thank you so much for your wonderful show and The Prayer Experience. I feel that [our affirmation] is becoming part of my soul. It [has] helped me be clear in priorities. I have been running a professional office and have been struggling. I could not see a way out. I used to fear closing my office and going bankrupt. That really affected my sense of worthiness. I went from feeling hopeless, unsuccessful and fearful to feeling peaceful, hopeful and trusting that whatever is happening is for my own good, with God as my anchor. The biggest miracle is that I realized deep within me that I do not need to achieve or be [outwardly] successful. I see my experiences as blessings that are helping me get rid of unhealthy mind attachments to discover my true essence. It's like peeling an onion to get to its core. I never thought that was possible. My mind is transformed. Thank you.

Lorna, a listener from the United Kingdom sent the following e-mail:

The prayer vigil has given me an opportunity to refresh and strengthen my connection with God/Universe. … As I write this e-mail I am becoming more aware of the importance of maintaining this connection. Each evening I hope to continue this 15-minute meditation. … I feel a calm assurance deep down in the core of my being that all is well. All that I need to achieve the goal of my dreams has already been provided. My job is to feel it, know it, believe it and live it day by day. … What is most important is that I know I am not alone on this journey and my connection with God/Universe assures me of the help [that is] available [to me] all the way.

Beth, a listener from Wisconsin called in with this message.

The listenership of Touching the Stillness continues to grow. When asked about her passion for prayer, Pipe said, “I would feel blessed to know that my name and radio show are considered synonymous with prayer and meditation. That's what I'm on this planet to do.”

Join The Prayer Experience
Originally planning to hold the prayer vigil only through the end of October 2009, Pipe has decided to continue the journey. Join The Prayer Experience each evening at 10 p.m. using this affirmation:

“I am seeking the Kingdom of God Consciousness and its righteousness, perfectly believing that all good things shall then be added to me.”

Repeat the affirmation. Then enter into 15 minutes of uninterrupted silence. Ask nothing other than a deeper connection with God.
