Bishop Spong—Tuesday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m.Renowned spiritual leader Dr. John Shelby Spong, former Episcopal Bishop, offers fresh spiritual ideas and encourages people to question current biblical interpretations. Over the past four decades, he has become a definitive voice for progressive Christianity and is regarded as a fearless advocate for church reform.
In a recent interview, Spong stated, “Unity is distinctively Christian, but they have managed to escape the traditional Christian obsession with sin, guilt, rescue and control. The things that attract me to Unity are their dedication to education; the consistently high quality of their music; their commitment to affirm their children rather than to make them feel inadequate; their care for one another and the joy that permeates Unity worship.”
Bishop Spong delivers more than 200 public lectures worldwide each year to standing room only crowds. His best-selling books include Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism; A New Christianity for a New World; Why Christianity Must Change or Die; and Here I Stand.
Bishop Spong will speak on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:30 pm. He will also receive “The Light of God Expressing Award in Society” from the Association. Bishop Spong's contributions to the world have benefited humankind and enhanced the spiritual quality of life through his speaking, teaching and writing.
Lynne Twist—Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. Lynne Twist is a global activist, fundraiser, author and founder of the Soul of Money Institute. She has devoted her life to service in support of global sustainability, human rights, economic integrity and spiritual authenticity.
An original staff member of The Hunger Project, an organization started in 1977 to end world hunger, Twist served as a leader of this global initiative for 20 years. During that time she created and managed the worldwide fundraising operation. As she traveled the world learning to work in a multitude of cultures, Twist developed profound wisdom about our relationship to money and the way it governs, dominates and stresses our lives. The compelling stories and insights gained from her experiences inspire her keynotes and are the foundation for her best-selling, award-winning book The Soul of Money.
Twist will deliver her keynote presentation on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m.
