Just Imagine!

Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, identified 12 spiritual abilities perfectly expressed by Jesus, which are also present in each one of us. Fillmore called them the Twelve Powers. Unity is designating 2010 “The Year of the Twelve Powers.” This article is one of the many inspirational materials featured this month as part of our Twelve Powers Resource Center.

I remember as a child lying on the soft summer grass in my backyard watching big puffy clouds form myriad shapes against the soft blue sky. Many times my best friend would join me in “cloud-watching.” Sometimes we would see the same shapes in the sky, but other times we would see completely different things. She might see a scary dragon and I would see a gentle butterfly.

The Power of Imagination allowed us each to see the clouds in our own unique way. I still love to cloud-watch because it takes me out of my small world of thoughts and quickly moves me into a space where I can use my Power of Imagination to create my life.

Meditation and prayer also quicken and balance my Imagination through spiritual understanding and faith. In meditation, I move out of the kind of Imagination that shows up in my life as worry or pressing goals into a spiritual understanding where I can visualize and imagine my life through Spirit's guidance.

We must never squelch our Imagination, but rather learn to use it wisely. Frightened children are often told, “Don't be silly, it is just your imagination!” Imagination can make those monsters under the bed seem very real indeed, but Imagination can also be used to help you create the life of your dreams.

We shape and form our lives from the imaginative thoughts that we hold. Some of our thoughts are conscious—others are deeply unconscious. We can control how we show up in life by exploring what we are imagining from day to day.

You can use your Imagination to visualize that which you want in your life, rather than letting your Imagination take you down a dark, scary road.

Take a moment right now and just imagine the wonderful life you can create.
Oh, just imagine!
