Embrace Your Power

By Gail Dobert
Director of Silent Unity's Telephone Prayer Ministry

Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, identified 12 spiritual abilities perfectly expressed by Jesus, which are also present in each one of us. Fillmore called them the Twelve Powers. Unity is designating 2010 “The Year of the Twelve Powers.” This article is one of the many inspirational materials featured this month as part of our Twelve Powers Resource Center.

Power is expressing beautifully in nature this spring. I am always inspired as I watch the infinite life force burst forth with unbounded power all around me. The world of nature comes to life with blasts of color and wind, rain and sunshine every spring.

As I write this article I can see several bright purple redbud trees outside my office window. Purple is a magnificent color to represent the power of Power. Our Power center is located in the throat near the thyroid gland. I use this as a reminder that words have great power in shaping our world.

Just as the wind and the rain “baptize” the world of nature, our words can cleanse and renew our inner world. It is essential that we quicken the Powers of Wisdom, Love and Faith if we are to recognize and realize the real meaning and use of our Power center.

It has long been said that knowledge is power. A part of this saying that is often overlooked is that great responsibility comes with Power. Unity teaches that words have power—but do you always use your words for good?

I cannot say that I always do. I mean to—and yet I hear words come out of my mouth that are not in integrity with what I want to manifest in my life.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight …”

These words are from Psalm 19:14. Being “acceptable in thy sight” does not mean we should try to please a God “out there” somewhere. It means to fully express your innate talents and love in this world—to fully recognize your own inner Power and to freely use it for good.

We are each a radiating center of Power that can be manifested by sitting in the silence. This month I invite you to expand your personal time in the silence. Find your true source of Power and pay close attention to your thoughts and words. Make sure they are aligned the infinite source of all good.

There is but One Presence and One Power in the universe, and you are one with that Power. Use it to create an abundant and meaningful life—create the life of your dreams. Be Powerful!
