Join Rev. John Strickland and vocal duo Devotion June 19–25, 2011, at Unity Village for the Adults of Unity Retreat: A Practical Formula for Healing Retreat. This weeklong program is designed to support participants in elevating their prayer, meditation and visualization practices to realize their true life potential.
Through music, prayer, discussion, ritual, story, multimedia and other elements, participants will be encouraged to release the stress of life and reconnect with the Spirit within. To accomplish this, Strickland, senior minister of Atlanta Unity, says one must embrace several basic principles and practices to come into complete alignment with the universe. “The first of these, is giving thanks,” he says. “I believe everything, and I mean EVERYTHING—not just the things that seem to be good—start with giving thanks. Giving thanks is a supercharger for our work in consciousness.”
At the retreat, Strickland will combine the work of former mentor, Bible scholar and educator Ed Rabel (1924-2004), with the work of acclaimed psychologist, life coach and author Dr. Maria Nemeth, to create what he calls a “profound formula for healing, abundance, happiness and healthy relationships.”
“Ed Rabel's five principles of healing are Belief, Love, Willingness, Faith and Forgiveness,” Strickland explains. “Based on the work of Dr. Nemeth, I add ‘Take Authentic Action.' These six, when practiced simultaneously, will transform your life!”
Music to Lift the Spirit
Devotion, a traveling music ministry comprised of Robert Anderson and Lori Sandstrom, is known worldwide for sharing positive musical messages of peace and spiritual transformation.
“Our primary message is the principle that we are all expressions of the Divine, and our diversity and awareness make our world a more conscious and peaceful place,” says Sandstrom. “Positive music seems to help to clarify this spiritual path that is often hard to define, hard to articulate. Music has a way of bypassing the mind and aids in opening hearts and softening the edges to support the healing of Spirit.”
According to Sandstrom, all attendees will experience something special whether familiar with Unity or just beginning to walk a spiritual path. “Retreats at Unity Village are always life-changing and powerful,” she says. “This year's retreat will focus on the mystical aspects in each of us. This idea of the mystery of God is integrated into almost all spiritual traditions. [The retreat] is a good place to step away from our day-to-day walk and join with others in community to deepen our awareness of our connection to the Divine Mind.”
