A Woman's Time Out Retreat: Rejuvenate Mind, Body and Spirit

By Lysa Allman-Baldwin

Join Lori Sandstrom, from the musical duo Devotion, and inspirational singer Karen Drucker, July 7–10, 2011, at Unity Village for the annual retreat, A Woman's Time Out. This four-day retreat is designed for women who want to rejuvenate body, mind and spirit by discovering and strengthening their spiritual gifts.

Using music, meditation, prayer and small-group work, Sandstrom and Drucker will show attendees how to gently navigate the demands, requests and expectations of life. The retreat will focus on achieving new clarity about choices and priorities.

Connecting and Growing Through Spirit
As female musicians who share powerful New Thought messages through their music, Sandstrom and Drucker offer a unique perspective on how women can connect with the Spirit within.

Sandstrom started leading women's retreats in the mid-90s in Colorado. “I love the healing energy that fills the room, the like-mindedness and the shared memories of life's greatest gifts and challenges,” she says. “My intention now is to be in service to the Goddess. I love the idea of getting together with the intention of lifting each other up, supporting each other's gifts and strengths, and embracing our shared humanity. I personally could not walk so gracefully through my world without my women friends. As we gather in retreat, lifelong friendships are established and our circle of connection grows.”

According to Drucker, taking time for oneself and deciding what path to follow in life is not about doing it right. “Just start,” she says. “Don't worry about doing things right or wrong. I have a song that says, ‘I don't have to be perfect. I'm doing the best I can. I give myself permission to be just who I am.' How do we ever sculpt something if we are not willing to make mistakes? It is the mistakes that get you to what feels right in your heart.”

About Devotion
A traveling music ministry comprised of Lori Sandstrom and Robert Anderson, Devotion is known worldwide for sharing positive musical messages of peace and spiritual transformation. Their music is a refreshing original blend of pop, rhythm and blues.

Sandstrom is a graduate of the International Peacemaker Institute. “Our primary message is the principle that we are all expressions of the Divine, and our diversity and awareness make our world a more conscious and peaceful place,” says Sandstrom. “Music has a way of bypassing the mind and aids in opening hearts and softening the edges to support the healing of Spirit.”

Karen Drucker
As an inspirational singer, Karen Drucker travels around the country speaking and performing at conferences, workshops, retreats and church events. She has produced 13 CDs and authored a book, Let Go of the Shore. She has facilitated women's retreats around the country and has worked with many renowned authors.

Her songs embody positive messages of affirmation, healing and self-empowerment. She says, “I try to make everything in my life be a mirror. How I treat people is how I will be treated. How much love I give out is how much I will receive. … It was Mother Teresa who said [paraphrased], ‘We cannot do great things, only small things with love.' That is my main intention with my music.”
