PASSAGE: Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a boy’; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.”
QUESTION: I want this interpreted because I opened the Bible three times, and it opened to this chapter and these verses.
COMMENT: This is a powerful passage to be guided to. It describes Jeremiah’s calling to prophecy, and metaphysically it describes our individual “calling”—our spiritual purpose in being here in this human experience. We are here to express the divinity of which we are each an intrinsic part. We are here to create a new consciousness—a “kingdom of heaven” consciousness—and each of us has an essential role in that purpose. We may feel inadequate to the task because we’ve come to believe that we are weak and limited beings. But in truth, we are expressions of the Power of God. If we stay surrendered to that indwelling Power, we will intuitively know the words to say and the choices to make. And there is nothing to fear.
