PASSAGE: "But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted" (Romans 6:17).

COMMENT: You asked simply for a passage about obedience. This is the first that came to mind. I like it because it makes it clear that “obedience” is about more than what we do or do not do. It's also about what we feel. If we obey by doing what we're told, but with an underlying energy of fear or resentment, we may still be in a consciousness of “sin”—which means we will still be “missing the mark,” which is the literal meaning of the root word from which sin is derived. If we are to fully express and experience our Oneness with the Power of God, we must obey from what King Solomon described as "an understanding heart." We must obey joyfully—not out of fear but out of a loving realization that God as Law is an energy of infinite love.
