Awards 2012 Special Award Recipients


Rev. Robert Brumet
Light of God Expressing in Unity Award
Tuesday, June 12th at 7:30pm


Rev. Robert Brumet has been a faculty member at Unity Institute since 1989. He teaches courses in the areas of spiritual development, pastoral care, meditation, and transpersonal psychology. He is the author of three Unity books: Finding Yourself in Transition, The Quest for Wholeness and Birthing a Greater Reality. Robert has authored over a dozen articles in Unity magazine, as well as several Unity pamphlets. Brumet is also a teacher of Insight Meditation. He received certification from Spirit Rock Meditation Center under the guidance of Jack Kornfield. He is currently enrolled in a graduate program in Spiritual Direction at Benedictine College in Atchison KS. His writings, seminars, retreats and radio broadcasts have impacted the lives of thousands of people throughout the US, Canada and the Caribbean.
 
Robert was ordained a Unity minister in 1980 and has served churches in Indiana and Kansas. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Toledo.


Rev. Duke Tufty
Charles Fillmore Award
Thursday, June 14th at 9:00am


Rev. Duke Tufty entered Unity School of Christianity's ministerial program in 1987. After graduating in 1989 he became associate minister to Rosemary Fillmore Rhea at the Myrtle Fillmore center in Mission, Kansas. He orchestrated the merger of the Myrtle Fillmore Center and Unity Temple on the Plaza in 1991 and is currently serving as Senior Minister.

Duke was elected to Unity School of Christianity's Board of Directors in 2001 and served as the Chair of the Board in 2002-2010.


Rev. Brendalyn Batchelor
Myrtle Fillmore Award

Rev. Brendalyn Batchelor, M.A., LPC, is an ordained Unity minister. She received her master's degree in Counseling from the University of New Mexico in 1991 and has been the minister of Unity Santa Fe since December 1994 when she went from the pews to the pulpit through the Unity Worldwide Miistries' Field Licensing Program. She was ordained in February 2000.

Prior to ministry, Brendalyn worked as an Employee Assistance Counselor, Health Case Manager, and Employee Relations Specialist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. She has extensive federal service human resource specialist and related investigative experience which uniquely qualified her to serve for 7 years as the Chair of the Credentialed Leader/Ministry Review Team for Unity Worldwide Ministries. In this position she was responsible for training, policy development, administration of the team and as a subject-matter expert in investigative procedures and sexual conduct issues.
Brendalyn is currently serving as Regional Representative of the thirteen-state South Central Region of Unity Worldwide Ministries. In this position she advises, consults, and trains regional ministries or acts as a triage agent connecting them to appropriate resources.

She is also currently serving as a member of the Southwestern College Board of Trustees and as President of the Santa Fe Interfaith Leadership Alliance.

In addition to Unity, Brendalyn's spiritual practice includes Vipassana meditation in the Goenke tradition, and has been living, to the best of her ability, the spiritual principles of twelve-step recovery the past thirteen-plus years.

 

Ambassador Andrew Young
Light of God Expressing in Society Award



Ambassador Andrew Young is not able to join us at our Unity People's convention. James Trapp and Jim Lee will present the Light of God Expressing Award to Ambassador Young on March 13th and the presentation will be recorded to show at convention.

Ambassador Andrew Young's humanitarian efforts and influence have spanned the globe. From his beginnings as an ordained minister and top aid to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement to his current position as founding principal and chair of GoodWorks International, an organization that embraces his long-held mission of facilitating economic development in the Caribbean and Africa, Ambassador Young has dedicated himself to improving the lives of all people, particularly those in Africa and the Diaspora.

His "good works" have taken him into more than 150 countries, including 48 of 53 countries in Africa. Through his leadership, countries throughout the world have created a successful model that combines religion, education, democracy and free enterprise in ways that support the public good.

While mayor of the city of Atlanta for two terms, Young helped attract 1100 new businesses and 70 billion dollars in private investments, and created one million new jobs. His leadership helped the City to earn the international reputation it holds today. He is the author of two books A Way Out of No Way and An Easy Burden.
